Leigh Handal Love this song because it captures a brutal reality that comes at you out of nowhere: how someone you've spent years with being as close as you can be can suddenly turn into someone you really didn't know at all in just a split second. This song puts that shock into words for me and begins to make it make sense.

about

The feeling of being a stranger in one's own home can be a crushing, sad experience. This is dedicated to that awful mindset. It's often hard to believe how a person you loved for so many years could turn on you, as though the relationship never existed, and you are no more than a threatening figure, who happens to have a key.

lyrics

As though I'm trapped inside a movie
This same scene keeps repeating
The one that ends with me retreating
No need to wonder how it plays out
The theater hears you screaming
And like me patrons end up leaving

That's no way, no way to talk to a stranger
A stranger in my own house
No way, no way to talk to a stranger
Hate flames high in your mouth
No it's no way , no Way to talk to a stranger

As though I'm sneaking through a window
I might threaten your life
Demand your money, wave my knife
Didn't matter that you knew me
For many years I tried
While you sat idly by

That's no way, no way to talk to a stranger
A stranger in my own house
No way, no way to talk to a stranger
Hate flames high in your mouth
No it's no way , no Way to talk to a stranger

How sad it feels now inside this place
You've removed all the picture frames
Those smiling faces faded away
No love was left or hope to chase
Once there was spirit in a goodbye kiss
It's ghost a photo that you must've missed
On the counter a short grocery list
Care was a big chore so you got your wish

That's no way, no way to talk to a stranger
A stranger in my own house
No way, no way to talk to a stranger
Hate flames high in your mouth
No it's no way , no Way to talk to a stranger
