about
I wrote this song with the great J.D. Souther for the One Flew South disc "Last Of The Good Guys", on Decca records. It was a beautiful experience creating this special piece; I came up with the intro of the tune while we were putting the final touches on another song we had written. The next thing I knew, J.D. was writing lyrics for the idea, as I was developing the chord progression and vocal melody. This song is, in my humble opinion, one of my high points as a writer. Another unknown fact is that this version, which appeared on the Decca release, is actually the demo, with strings added. Even cooler, my partner's in OFS, Chris Roberts and Royal Reed, had NEVER heard the song prior to the recording, yet sang the fantastic harmonies that heard here, in a couple of takes. Those guys were amazing...I miss working with them.
lyrics
What if all the things you own
seem to fade until they're gone
I'll be here at your side, deep in this love
We have grown
When all that you've been taught
makes you feel like you've been caught
Don't be afraid, you won't burn out of love
Can't be bought
Let the Day Carry You
Let The Day Carry You
Let The Day Carry You... Away
When morning lets you down
and the midday groans around
Call out to me, you can do it
and not make a sound
Let the Day Carry You
Let The Day Carry You
Let The Day Carry You... Away
