about
Written in 1997, and recorded "live" in studio for a demo that was requested by one of my heroes, guitarist Eric Johnson. I opened several shows for him after his receipt of this and other songs, a highlight of my career.
lyrics
He shows his face with no regret, the gears are turning, time is passing by
Seconds fly from hand to hand, a silent witness eyeing life
A face that's colored yellow tint, behind a glass that's painted deep in dust
Moments come and moments go, uniform like dominoes
I don't know if I'm changing, I don't feel any older
While the hours chase the second hand into the sun, and whisper tales time does tell
I'm a young man in a shell
He thinks of running fast at times, to add excitement to a humdrum day
Wouldn't want to take a chance, doesn't care to anyway
A future none to promising, he just works and works his whole life through
But isn't that what clocks are for, keeping track of what we don't do?
I don't know if I'm changing, I don't feel any older
While the hours chase the second hand into the sun, and whisper tales time does tell
I'm a young man in a shell
