Monkey Bars is a track from the 1996 HMG records release "EDDIE BUSH GROUP". I wrote it after having unexpected conversations with some of my younger guitar students at the time, who were getting into trouble due to smoking pot , underage drinking, etc. These were smart , good kids who were taking the wrong path, and I couldn't sit idly by playing the role of "cool" guitar teacher, so I began really talking to each of them individually, hoping they would listen and learn to make better decisions. I felt like there was more that could be done, from parental guidance to better scholastic experience, and found it interesting that in a couple of cases, the parents weren't aware, that the kids had chosen me,specifically, to share their choices with. Teaching someone, whether it's music or math, is not something to take lightly, or for granted.
lyrics
Pay Attention Mother Goose
There are kiddies running loose
They have lost contact with your stern and watchful eye
Father went to detox school
Shit faced was his golden rule
Up is where you want to move
How can you even try?
Sister shoots the horsie now
Brother's got a gun
Living on the Monkey Bars
Baby learned a trick in school
Flying high is fun
Living on the Monkey Bars
Living on the Monkey Bars
Listen to Mr. Mayor Man
Always doing what he can
counting all the payoffs in this very busy time
Kiddies on the street corner
Doing crack with Jack Horner
The leaders spend the money
while the children blow their mind
Sister's just a junkie now
Brother killed someone
Hanging on the Monkey Bars
Baby cussed his teacher out
Now he's on the run
Hanging by the monkey bars
Hanging by the monkey bars
All it takes is time well spent
and it seems so hard to find
Tomorrow Mother Goose is crying
'cause baby's doing time
Sister's just a junkie now
Brother's on the run
Living on the Monkey Bars
Baby's got a Monkey now
Flying high is fun
Hanging on the Monkey Bars
Hanging on the Monkey Bars
Hanging on the Monkey Bars
Hanging on the Monkey Bars
